These builds are an enhancement to the normal Vanilla Builds in the fact they support the Broadcom STA wireless stack. They will also form the baseline for future Vanilla versions where additional enhancements will be introduced. These builds will eventually mirror the Special Build enhancements but without the graphics overhead.
With this in mind therefore, do not log issues relating to the graphics stack!

Special Builds will be ready ‘soon’ for people needing additional graphics support!

Enhancements

  • R57 Chromium Release
  • Google Drive Integration
  • Improved Wireless support due to disabling APManager
  • Broadcom STA version 6.30.223.271

  1. Working really well on my HP Elitebook Folio G1 (touchscreen, sound, bluetooth, wifi all ok)

Is there anyway of enabling playstore support though?

    sudo su –
    echo ‘–enable-arc’ > /usr/local/chrome_dev.conf
    mount -o bind /usr/local/chrome_dev.conf /etc/chrome_dev.conf
    restart ui

The above does not work and I suspect it’s because it’s an unsupported chromebook model (of course lol)

  2. It’s not working on asus x205ta. No keyboard, no touchpad, no wifi 🙁
I’ve used Cloudready too, the result is not so bright either: no touchpad and no wifi too.

  3. I have finally found a resource for an updated flash player (v.24). It works great on Chromium versions 54 and 55 but it doesn’t work on this version 57. Does anyone have any insight on this? Is it because it’s a Vanilla build or Weekly Build?

    1. Well, the chrome://plugins page is not responding when using this build, BUT the flash player started working today!

Now, can anyone tell me why the Kiosk mode option does not appear in developer mode? (chrome://extensions)

      Thanks, as always!

        1. Thank you. That helps for the flash. I really need the Kiosk option in developer mode so I’m hoping it works in the Special Build when it’s released.

  4. Trying to run this x64 build inside VMware Fusion on a Mac. VM display “freezes” at “booting the kernel”. CPU continues to chug for a while then goes quiet.

Video problem? Is this a known issue?

  5. Hey Arnold,

Can you give me an idea of an USB wifi adapter you’d recommend that works out of the box with your vanilla builds?

Im trying to use a Meegopad T01 with RTL8723 and I cannot get any of them to pick up the wireless

    Thanks!

  6. I’m using

    Version 55.0.2853.0
    Platform 8777.0.2016_10_30_1349 (Developer Build – tonyd) developer-build x86-atb

And do i need to update newer version with usb stick boot or it is updating automatically?

      1. Still waiting for special build for auto update 🙂

        Version 55.0.2853.0
        Platform 8777.0.2016_10_30_1349 (Developer Build – tonyd) developer-build x86-atb

Because chrome has error with ssl pages and cannot browse :((

  7. I would really like to use this build, but since netflix is not working i need to use propitary cloudready :/ maybe you can add chrome support soon or maybe i can copy somefiles out of cloudready but idk ..

  8. I’m trying Camd64OS_R55-8777.0-Special with a Dell Optiplex 745. It has a SanDisk SSD and Nvidia NVS 310 graphics card. Only text mode will work. I see “Loading vmlinuz…”, several other boot messages, then “Booting the kernel.” If I wait a bit the display blinks, but no gui appears. Still says “Booting the kernel.” At this point, CTRL+ALT+F2 takes me to a login prompt and I can log on as chronos. This happens whether I boot from USB flash drive or install to SSD and boot from there. Suggestions?

    Thank you!

  9. wifi not working
    Dell Wireless 1702 -Atheros AR5B195 / WB195

This was working in Build R47 – think I used special.
    Not working in R57 enhanced.
Not working in R57 standard build.
    Trying R54 special build now.

    1. R54 special build worked ok.

Can’t get play store working, just says please wait after logging in. Is this something still to be implemented?
      Will this ever work?
Can’t seem to find an answer?

  10. I often use your Chromium OS builds on my macbook, and this is the coolest build I’ve tried so far.. But have problems in:
    – Touchpad (Apple Trackpad)
    – LED Backlit
    – WiFi (Airport Broadcom BCM94XX)

    Macbook Air 5,2 – 11 inch Mid 2012

The touchpad and wifi was working in Build R47 until R54 – either the special or not.
And all of them aren’t working in R57 enhanced & the standard build.

Hope it will work in the special build for R57 ^^
*Note: Graphics fine, animations & brightness works well. Seems to be supported out of the box (Intel HD Graphics 4000)

  11. After installing chromium OS on my old pc (latest build of the time of writing) I get the error that there is no boot medium installed, anyway to solve this problem

  12. Hey Arnold, I love Chromium OS, however I was wondering when the Play Store, or apks, will be added, Google has said almost everything is open source, so I was wondering when support will be added(estimate).
